Eynsham Choral Society

Aims & History

Eynsham Choral Society (ECS) provides a warm and creative atmosphere in which members can learn, and perform, a variety of great choral music. We welcome people of all ages, and are keen to attract younger members. The choir is committed to supporting young professional musicians who are seeking to establish their careers, and to giving high quality performances; therefore, we employ professional, or semi-professional, vocal soloists and orchestral musicians for our concerts. Taking account of choir members, other musicians, and our audiences, we bring choral music to nearly 1000 people in the course of our two annual concerts and summer workshop.
Nature of the Choir

ECS is a community choir, with charitable status. The Society was founded in 1980 by a small group who wanted to improve their singing technique, and perform locally. The choir now has a membership of just less than 100. Rehearsals are held at Eynsham Primary School on Tuesday evenings at 1930, and concerts are normally given in the parish church. We welcome anyone who enjoys singing, and take care to provide for the disabled. The Society has a “no auditions” policy and, because of this, members range from accomplished amateur singers who can take on solo roles, to beginners who sometimes need to learn to read music. The standard of the choir has risen appreciably over the years, and we regularly get very good reviews of our performances in the local press.
